In a sharply worded letter signed by Comrade Peter Oche, the national president of NAUS, the organisation asked that Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the vice-chancellor of FUOYE, be removed within 72 hours. Engr. Folashade Adebayo and other senior university employees accused the VC of financial mismanagement and sexual harassment, according to the association.

According to the letter, which was sent to Dr. Olatunji Alausa, the minister of education, and distributed to the Abuja press, NAUS is preparing students nationwide for possible demonstrations and disturbances in the event that their requests are not fulfilled. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had already petitioned for Fasina’s urgent removal, and NAUS affirmed its full support for that demand.

By suspending important members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), NANS had charged that FUOYE’s Governing Council, headed by Senator Victor Udo Udoma (SAN), had improperly handled the sexual harassment probe and violated due process.

NAUS’s demands are as follows:

  • Prof. Fasina, the vice chancellor, should be fired immediately.
  • Senator Udoma, the chairman of the governing council, has been suspended while the probe is ongoing.
  • Creation of an impartial commission of students, legal professionals, and outside parties to re-examine allegations of sexual harassment, particularly those involving Dr. Agbegbedia.
  • A thorough examination of FUOYE’s financial documentation during Prof. Fasina’s leadership.
  • Safeguards for SSANU leaders and Dr. Ngozi Ole, among other whistleblowers. public admission of institutional shortcomings and a well-defined plan to bring justice and integrity back to the university.

Until justice is done and the students’ voices are heard, NAUS promised not to back down.
