The maximum recommended dosage is 120mg per day.
30mg is the lowest available tablet strength. Dosage may be increased in 30mg increments, taken once daily with breakfast.
Do not split, crush, or chew the modified release tablets – swallow whole.
It may take a few weeks for Diamicron MR to have its full effect on blood sugar levels.
Dosage adjustments should be made by your doctor based on blood glucose monitoring and hemoglobin A1c levels.
If switching from standard gliclazide tablets, the dosage of Diamicron MR may need to be adjusted.
Elderly patients often start at 30mg or less due to decreased kidney function.
If a dose is missed, take the next scheduled dose the next day – do not double up doses.
Kidney function should be checked prior to starting and periodically during treatment.
