INTRODUCTION
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS contains Donepezil which belongs to the group of medicines called Cholinesterase inhibitors. DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS is used in adults to treat the symptoms of dementia in people diagnosed with mild, moderate and severe Alzheimer?s disease.
Alzheimer?s disease is a brain disorder that causes dementia (a group of symptoms that affect the memory, thinking and social abilities of a person) by destroying the memory and other important mental functions in the brain which is characterized by memory loss, confusion, and behavioural changes.
Before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS, inform your doctor if you have low levels of magnesium or potassium in your blood, difficulty passing urine, stomach or duodenal ulcers, fits or seizures, asthma or long-term lung disease, heart, kidney, or liver disease.
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Donepezil or piperidine derivatives and also not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The safety and effectiveness of DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS in pediatric patients have not been established.
The most common side effects of taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS are diarrhoea, nausea, tiredness, difficulty in sleeping, common cold, loss of appetite, hallucinations, and aggressive behaviour. Consult and inform your doctor if any of these symptoms get worse. ?

Used to treat symptoms of dementia of the Alzheimer?s type (mild to severe) in adult patients
HOW DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS WORKS
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS belongs to cholinesterase inhibitor which works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking. Memory loss in Alzheimer?s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS as advised by your physician. Keep DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS in your mouth and do not swallow or chew the strip. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.?

Signs of bleeding in the stomach, guts or bowel such as passing black tar-like stools or fresh blood from the rectum (back passage)
Seizures (fits)
Signs of hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) such as nausea or being sick, dark urine, pale stools, yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice), and fever
Changes in heart rhythm or a very slow heart rate
Signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (serious brain disorder) such as fever with muscle stiffness, sweating or a lowered level of consciousness
Signs of rhabdomyolysis such as muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, particularly, if at the same time, you feel unwell, and have a high temperature or dark urine
Signs of life-threatening condition called Torsade de Pointes such as fast, irregular heartbeat, fainting
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea and consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Tiredness:
Make sure you take enough rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Try to avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.
Dizziness:
Try to take rest and relax and get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit your consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Vomiting:
Try to take DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
BREASTFEEDING
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS may cause tiredness or sleepiness, dizziness, and muscle cramps. If you experience these side effects, do not drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS because it can reduce the effect of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
KIDNEY
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
LIVER
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver problems. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
LUNGS
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS should be used with caution in patients with asthma or long-term lung disease. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
HEART DISEASE
DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases such as irregular or very slow heartbeat, heart failure, myocardial infarction, Torsade de Pointes (condition of abnormal heart rhythms), family history of the prolonged QT interval (fast and chaotic heartbeats). Consult your doctor before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS.
OTHERS

INTERACTIONS

Before taking DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
Medicines used for heart rhythm problems (Ex. amiodarone, sotalol)
Medicines used for depression (Ex. citalopram, escitalopram, amitriptyline, fluoxetine)
Medicines used for psychosis (Ex. pimozide, sertindole, ziprasidone)
Medicines used for bacterial infections (Ex. clarithromycin, erythromycin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, rifampicin)
Medicines used for fungal infections (Ex. ketoconazole)
Galantamine (used to treat Alzheimer?s disease)
Medicines used for arthritis (Ex. aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs such as ibuprofen, or diclofenac sodium)
Anticholinergics medicines (Ex. tolterodine)
Anticonvulsants (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)
Medicines used to treat heart condition (Ex. quinidine, beta-blockers such as propranolol and atenolol)
Diazepam, succinylcholine (used as muscle relaxants)
General anesthetics (Ex. propofol, ketamine, thiopental)
Medicines obtained without a prescription (Ex. herbal remedies)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of DONETAZ ODS 10MG STRIPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, salivation, sweating, slow heart rate, low blood pressure (light-headedness or dizziness when standing), breathing problems, losing consciousness, seizures (fits) or convulsions and muscle weakness.
