Installation Instructions:

1. Attach the unit vertically to a post with included mounting bracket.

2. Position the rain gauge in a safe location where there will be no run off from trees or roofs.

3. Ensure the minimum distance is at least twice the distance away from the tallest structure.

4. Make sure the rain gauge is straight and vertical.

5. For more accurate results, install the rain gauges in pairs at 6 meter spacing, and record the average of the gauges. This reduces the effect of strong winds on your results.

For consistency in results, measure and record rainfall at the same time every day.

1. Remove inner cylinder from gauge.

2. To record the rainfall, follow either of the following procedures:

• Where rainfall has been heavy and overflowed into the outer cylinder: Measure the water in the inner cylinder, record the amount and empty the gauge. Then take the rain contained in the outer cylinder and pour into the inner cylinder. Measure and add the measurements from the inner and outer tubes together. Continue to measure until the full contents of the outer cylinder has been measured. Record the total amount on your rainfall chart. 

• If you only have rainfall in your inner cylinder, simply measure the water in the rain gauge and record the rainfall on your rainfall chart.
