INTRODUCTION
PROTHIDEP 50MG contain Dosulepin which belongs to a group of medicine called tricyclic antidepressants. It is used to treat depression and can also help reduce feelings of anxiety. Depression is a mood disorder that cause persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Anxiety is a mental health disorder characterised by feeling of worry, anxiety, or fear. It increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help in regulating the mood and treat depression.
Always take PROTHIDEP 50MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. The common side effects are dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, constipation, sedation, difficulty in passing urine. Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause drowsiness. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Always take PROTHIDEP 50MG exactly as your doctor has told you. This medicine must be taken with or without food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS OF PROTHIDEP 50MG
SERIOUS
Bone marrow depression or reduction in some blood cells (you may experience unusual bruising or abnormal bleeding, sore throat and fever, mouth ulcers)
Liver problems with yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
Convulsions (fits)
Irregular heartbeat

Dry mouth

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Dry mouth:
Chew sugar-free gum or suck on sugar-free hard candies. Control caffeine intake. Do not use mouthwashes. Sip water regularly.
Dizziness:
Get up and move around to feel awake, take small naps to edge off the sleepiness. Give your eyes a break to avoid fatigue and eat a healthy food to boost energy.
Constipation:?
Take fibre rich foods?such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water.?Exercise more regularly.

BREASTFEEDING
PROTHIDEP 50MG is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause drowsiness.
ALCOHOL
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with PROTHIDEP 50MG.
KIDNEY
PROTHIDEP 50MG should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
LIVER
PROTHIDEP 50MG is not recommended in patients with active liver diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
ALLERGY
Do not take PROTHIDEP 50MG if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Dosulepin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
PROTHIDEP 50MG is not recommended in patients with active heart diseases. Before taking, discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
OTHERS
Tell your doctor if you have or had conditions such as,
Have an eye condition known as glaucoma
Suffer from periods of exaggerated behaviour (mania)
Have difficulty in passing urine, or have prostate problems
Have epilepsy
Have a thyroid problem
Elderly (especially agitation, confusion and lightheadedness)
If surgery is planned
Have or had thoughts about killing or harming yourself
Have an anxiety disorder
INTERACTIONS
Talk to your doctor if you are taking,
SSRI?s, monoamine oxidase inhibitor (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors) (used to treat depression)
Levothyroxine (thyroxine) (used to treat thyroid)
Phenobarbitone (used to treat epilepsy)
Amylobarbitone (used to treat insomnia)
Methylphenidate (used to treat behavioural problems)
Opioid such as codeine, morphine dihydrocodeine, co-proxamol and co-dydramol
Sympathomimetic agents such as ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline (used to treat heart problems and asthma as well as some decongestants and cough/ cold remedies)
Guanethidine (used to treat high blood pressure)
Sotalol, terfenadine, astemizole, halofantrine (used to regulate the heartbeat)
