Benzbromarone is a non-competitive inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. It has been evaluated as an effective treatment for gout, thanks to its ability to potently inhibit CYP2C9, reducing urate reabsorption which in turn lowers serum urate levels. It has also shown antioxidant effects in rats with angiotensin-II and salt-induced hypertension, where it reduces the presence of oxidative stress markers.
