Thaumatococcus daniellii (Moi-moi leaves)
Moi- Moi leaves as it is popularly called in Nigeria are the leaves from the plant Thaumatococcus
daniellii which is a plant belonging to the family Marantaceae. The fruit from the plant is known
as?miraculous fruit, miraculous berry, serendipity berry and katamfe/katempfe. In Nigeria, it is
popularly referred to as soft cane. They are used for wrapping various types of foods such as
moi moi, bean cake, yam flour, rice and pounded yam for both domestic and commercial uses.
They are also used for keeping kolanuts fresh locally.
