An Indonesian medical researcher named Desy Simamora has been awarded the coveted Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) to study molecular, cellular, and cancer biology for a Master of Medical Science at Yonsei University.
Simamora, who received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Biotechnology and was named the top student in her class, pursued overseas scholarships because of her interest in medical research. She submitted applications to several programs, including GKS, MEXT, Fulbright, and Stipendium Hungaricum, but she ultimately decided on GKS because of its extensive support.

She achieved a 7.5 on the IELTS after using a rigorous application plan that included in-depth university research, well-structured essay writing, compelling recommendation letters, and independent study. Her leadership experience and academic expertise bolstered her candidature despite obstacles, such as an unexpected interview question.
Simamora counsels prospective candidates to begin early, conduct in-depth study, write strong essays, look for mentorship, and get well-prepared for interviews. Her success story demonstrates how academic excellence, strategic planning, and perseverance may lead to foreign scholarships.
