INTRODUCTION
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET contains Amlodipine which belongs to theroup of medicines called Antihypertensive agents. It is used to treat hypertension and certain type of angina (chest pain) called as Prinzmetal or variant angina.
Hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) is a medical condition in which the force of the blood exerted against the walls of the arteries remains very high, and as a result it may lead to severe damage to the blood vessels supplying vital organs, such as heart, kidney or brain. If left untreated, it may cause serious complications such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke or even blindness.
Angina is a type of chest pain caused due to decreased blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscles. It is characterized by a sharp chest pain originating from the heart and radiating until left shoulder along with severe chest tightness or heaviness, and difficulty in breathing.
Take AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Avoid drinkingrapefruit juice while taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET, as it could lead to unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effects of AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET.
Before taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any liver problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have severe uncontrollable increase in blood pressure or recently had heart attack.
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with other severe heart problems such as narrowing of heart valves or cardiogenic shock. It is also not suitable for use in patients with severe hypotension (low blood pressure).
Consult your doctor before taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET are swelling of ankles or other body parts, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, tiredness, racing heartbeat, indigestion, constipation and muscle cramps. HOW AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET WORKS
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET is a vasodilator. It works by blocking the entry of certain ions (calcium ions) within the blood vessels that causes narrowing. As a result, it relaxes the blood vessels and allows blood to flow more smoothly across the blood vessels with less pressure.
In patients with angina, AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET acts by improving the blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscles. This reduces the strain on the heart and improves heart functions.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with alass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor to achieve better results.

Signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing or swallowing)

Severe skin reactions (such as skin rash with itching and redness, blistering and peeling of skin, skin swelling and inflammation of mucous membrane)

Chest pain, shortness of breath (signs of heart attack)

Inflammation of pancreas (causing severe stomach pain that radiates to the back side of the body)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Take AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax.et enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.
Headache: ?
Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if this side effect bothers you.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk to the nursing infant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk to the nursing infant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET as it could make you feel dizzier.
LIVER
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Amlodipine or to any other calcium antagonists (such as nifedipine, diltiazem).
HEART DISEASE
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe heart problems such as heart failure, aortic stenosis (narrowing of arteries) or cardiogenic shock (inability of heart to pump blood). It should be used with caution in patients having a history of recent heart attack or heart failure. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
Severe low blood pressure (hypotension)
Before taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
Severe uncontrollable increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis)
Use in pediatrics:
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years. It should be used in children and adolescents (aged between 6-17 years) only if prescribed by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before administration.
Use ineriatrics:
AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Therefore, consult your doctor for advice before taking it.
INTERACTIONS

Other medicines used to treat high blood pressure or angina (Ex. diltiazem, verapamil)

Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to treat fungal infections)

Ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir (used in treatment of HIV infections)

Rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (used to treat bacterial infections)

Dantrolene (a medicine used to treat muscle spasms)

Medicines used to control elevated cholesterol levels (Ex. simvastatin)

Medicines used to preventraft rejection and to suppress immune functions (such as tacrolimus, sirolimus, temsirolimus, everlimus, cyclosporine)

St. John?s wort (an herbal medicine used to treat depression)
B. Drug ? Food interaction:
Avoid drinkingrapefruit juice while taking AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET, as it could lead to unpredictable increase in the blood pressure lowering effects of AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more AMCARD 2.5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage might include dizziness, fainting, light-headedness, weakness, shock, cool or clampy skin, and shortness of breath.
