INTRODUCTION
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET contains Carvedilol which belongs to aroup of medicines called Beta-blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain or angina and also used to treat heart failure. Hypertension is defined as persistently elevated arterial blood pressure. Angina pectoris can be defined as a sudden, sharp and severe chest pain that originates from the apex of the heart and radiates to the left shoulder and it can be characterized by the presence of severe and crushing pain along with a feeling of pressure and suffocation, especially behind the breastbone. Heart failure is an inability of the heart to pump sufficient blood to meet the body?s needs.
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe heart failure (fluid retention and breathlessness), a history of wheezing due to asthma or other lung diseases, severe hardening of arteries affecting the circulation in legs or feet, liver disease, conduction defect of the heart or heart block, AV heart blockrade II or III, sick sinus syndrome (sino- atrial block), slow heartbeat, cardiogenic shock, very low blood pressure, unstable heart failure, Prinzmetal?s angina (chest pain at rest), untreated pheochromocytoma (a tumour of the adrenalland), metabolic acidosis (disturbance in body?s acid-base balance),lucose oralactose intolerance.
Before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET inform your doctor, if you have diabetes, kidney, liver problems, severe hardening of arteries affecting the circulation in your legs or feet, arms, low blood pressure or elderly, first-degree heart block or other heart problems, severe heart failure, low salt and blood levels, Raynaud?s syndrome or peripheral vascular disease (cold hands and feet), thyroid problems, pheochromocytoma, previous history of serious allergic reaction or desensitisation therapy, psoriasis, Prinzmetal?s angina (chest pain at rest), dry eyes, lung disease (Asthma, COPD), pain, numbness or weakness of muscles due to low blood flow, surgery.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET. CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET isenerally not recommended for use by pregnant and breastfeeding women. CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). The most common side effects of taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET are dizziness, headache, weakness, tiredness and low blood pressure causing lightheaded or fainting.

HOW CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET WORKS
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET works by blocking Beta receptors (Beta-1 and Beta- 2) and alpha1 receptors causing relaxation of blood vessels. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body and reduces blood pressure and strain on your heart. It has also a calcium channel blockade effect in high doses, antioxidant/ free radical scavenging properties.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with alass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET

COMMON

Lack of muscle strength, weakness, dizziness or feeling unwell, tiredness, headache

Heart failure or heart problems

Low blood pressure

Infections of the airway Ex. bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, nose and throat (upper respiratory tract) causing wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and sore throat

Decreased red blood cells (causing pale skin, tiredness, heart palpitations and shortness of breath)

Increased cholesterol levels in the blood

Change in blood sugar levels

An allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, throat and mouth, leading to breathing difficulty or swallowing; skin rash, hives

Flu-like symptoms (Ex. headache, fever, chills and body aches)

Serious skin reactions such as (erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis) can occur. Redness often associated with blisters may appear on the skin, mouth,enital areas or eyelids. These may lead to widespread peeling of the skin

Chest pain accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating and feeling sick

Decreased urination often with swelling of legs (indicates problems with kidneys)

Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) which may lead to seizures or unconsciousness

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Nausea or vomiting:
Take the medicine with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for treating diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Stomach pain:
Rest and relax. Try to have smaller meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
Dizziness or drowsiness:
Try to rest and relax.et enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET isenerally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
BREASTFEEDING
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET isenerally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known if this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy after taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET because it might make you dizzier.
KIDNEY
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
LIVER
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
ALLERGY
Do not take CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Carvedilol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
LUNGS
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with breathing problems such as asthma or other lung diseases. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
HEART DISEASE
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe heart failure, conduction defect of the heart or heart block, AV heart blockrade II or III, sick sinus syndrome (sino-atrial block), slow heartbeat, cardiogenic shock, very low blood pressure, unstable heart failure, Prinzmetal?s angina (chest pain at rest). Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
OTHERS
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
Severe hardening of arteries affecting the circulation in legs or feet

Untreated pheochromocytoma

Metabolic acidosis

Glucose oralactose intolerance

Receiving diltiazem or verapamil injection or infusion
Before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
Diabetes

Raynaud?s syndrome (poor circulation affecting hands, feet or lower legs causing cold hands and feet or pain)

Raynaud?s syndrome (cold feet and hands) or peripheral vascular disease causing cold hands and feet)

Thyroid problems

Previous history of a serious allergic reaction

Desensitisation therapy

Psoriasis

Wear contact lenses (as they may cause dry eyes)

Surgery

Taking other antihypertensives like debrisoquine
Use in pediatrics:
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET isenerally not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
Use ineriatrics:
CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged above 65 years. Consult your doctor before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
Medicines used to treat diabetes (Ex. insulin, metformin)

Medicines used to treat depression or other mental health conditions (Ex. moclobemide, reserpine, amitriptyline, fluoxetine, paroxetine, isocarboxide, phenelzine, phenothiazines, haloperidol)

Medicines used to treat high blood pressure or heart diseases (Ex. clonidine, doxazosin, terazosin, amiodarone, diltiazem, verapamil, amlodipine, nifedipine, indoramin, digoxin, chlorthalidone, cyclopenthiazide, isosorbide-mononitrate,lyceryl trinitrate,uanethidine,uanfacine, reserpine, methyldopa)

Atracurium besilate (medicines used to relax muscles and also used in anaesthesia)

Corticosteroids Ex. prednisolone (medicines used to treat inflammation, pain or allergic reactions)

Cimetidine (medicines used to treat ulcers)

Erythromycin (used to treat infections)

Medicines used to treat cough and cold (Ex. ephedrine or pseudoephedrine)

Medicines used for migraine (Ex. clonidine, ergotamine)

Ketoconazole (used for fungal infections)

Amylobarbitone (a medicine used to induce sleep)

Prochlorperazine (a medicine used to treat nausea and vomiting)

Cyclosporine (a medicine used after organ transplantation)

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ex. ibuprofen, diclofenac (used to treat inflammation, painful bones, joints and muscle)

Medicines used for hormone replacement therapy (Ex. oestrogens) or contraceptive pills (used to prevent pregnancy)

Rifampicin (medicines used to treat infections like tuberculosis)

Beta-agonist bronchodilators (medicines used to treat asthma or other chest conditions)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of CARVISTAR CR 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are dizziness, faintness, sick, breathlessness or wheezy, very drowsy or experience convulsions.
