Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial is used in the treatment of meningitis, which is an inflammation of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. This infection may be caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Neisseria meningitidis.
Bacterial Septicemia
Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial is used in the treatment of septicemia which is an infection of the blood caused by Staphylococci and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Gonococcal Infection
Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial is used in the treatment of gonococcal infection which is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Urinary Tract Infection

Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial is contraindicated for use if Lidocaine is used as a solvent for intravenous injection. Lidocaine can be used as a solvent for the intramuscular route of injection for this medicine, despite contraindications.
Calcium-containing products
Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial is contraindicated in neonates who are on calcium-containing intravenous solutions or infusions such as parenteral nutrition because of the risk of precipitation of Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial and calcium.

General Warnings
Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of allergy to Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial or Beta-lactam Antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins.
Hemolytic anemia
An immune mediated hemolytic anemia has been reported in patients receiving Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial and other cephalosporins. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue the medicine if you develop hemolytic anemia until the exact cause is determined.
Prothrombin time
Alterations in prothrombin time (a test used to check for bleeding problems) have been reported in patients receiving Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial . Regular monitoring of prothrombin time may be necessary for some patients. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.
Drug-resistance
Usage of Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.
Patients with impaired kidney or liver function

This medicine is not recommended for use if you experience severe diarrhea after receiving Cefxone Injection IM 1 gm 1 Vial . Antibiotic therapy may cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora in the large intestine; this may promote the growth of bacteria called Clostridium difficile, leading to severe diarrhea. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.
Use in neonates
is not recommended in patients less than 28 days of age.
