INTRODUCTION
DONEP SYRUP contains Donepezil which belongs to the group of medicines called Cholinesterase inhibitors. DONEP SYRUP is used in adults to treat the symptoms of dementia in people diagnosed with mild, moderate and severe Alzheimer?s disease.
Alzheimer?s disease is a brain disorder that causes dementia (a group of symptoms that affect memory, thinking and social abilities of a person) by destroying the memory and other important mental functions in the brain which is characterized by memory loss, confusion, and behavioral changes.
Before taking DONEP SYRUP, inform your doctor if you have inherited intolerance to fructose sugar, difficulty passing urine, stomach, or duodenal ulcers, fits or seizures, asthma or long-term lung disease, heart, kidney, or liver disease.
DONEP SYRUP is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Donepezil or piperidine derivatives such as haloperidol, thioridazine.
It should be used during pregnancy unless considered clearly necessary by your doctor. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.
It is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). The most common side effects of taking DONEP SYRUP are diarrhea, nausea, tiredness, difficulty in sleeping, common cold, loss of appetite, hallucinations, and aggressive behavior. Consult and inform your doctor if any of these above side effects gets worse.
USES OF DONEP SYRUP
Used to treat symptoms of dementia of the Alzheimer type (mild to severe) in adult patients
HOW DONEP SYRUP WORKS
DONEP SYRUP belongs to cholinesterase inhibitor which works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking. Memory loss in Alzheimer?s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take DONEP SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DONEP SYRUP
COMMON
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
Headache
Muscle cramps
Tiredness
Difficulty in sleeping (insomnia)
Common cold
Loss of appetite

Unusual dreams including nightmares
Agitation
Aggressive behavior

Shaking or uncontrollable movement especially of the face and tongue but also of the limbs
Stop taking DONEP SYRUP and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:?? ????????????????????
Signs of stomach or duodenal ulcers such as stomach pain and indigestion felt between the navel and the breastbone
Signs of bleeding in the stomach or intestines such as passing black tar like stools or visible blood from the rectum
Seizures (fits) or convulsion
Signs of hepatitis (liver damage) such as nausea or being sick, dark urine, pale stools, yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice), and fever
Signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (serious brain disorder) such as fever with muscle stiffness, sweating or a lowered level of consciousness
Signs of rhabdomyolysis such as muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain, particularly, if at the same time, you feel unwell, and have a high temperature or dark urine
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Diarrhea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid taking any medicine on your own to treat diarrhea and consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Tiredness:
Make sure you take enough rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take DONEP SYRUP at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Try to avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.
Dizziness:
Try to take rest and relax and get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Try to limit your consumption of alcohol as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor and inform if your symptom does not improve.
Nausea or Vomiting:
Try to take DONEP SYRUP with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
DONEP SYRUP is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking DONEP SYRUP.
BREASTFEEDING
DONEP SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking DONEP SYRUP.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
DONEP SYRUP may cause tiredness, dizziness or muscle cramps. If you experience these side effects, do not drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before taking DONEP SYRUP.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking DONEP SYRUP because it can reduce the effect of this medicine.
KIDNEY
DONEP SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with mild kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking DONEP SYRUP.
LIVER
DONEP SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease and it should be used with caution in patients with liver problems or hepatitis. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DONEP SYRUP.
ALLERGY
Do not take DONEP SYRUP if you are allergic to Donepezil or piperidine derivatives such as haloperidol, thioridazine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
LUNGS
DONEP SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with asthma or long-term lung disease. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DONEP SYRUP.
HEART DISEASE
DONEP SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with heart condition such as irregular or very slow heartbeat. Consult your doctor before taking DONEP SYRUP.
OTHERS

INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking DONEP SYRUP, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
Medicines used for depression (Ex. fluoxetine)
Medicines used for bacterial infections (Ex. erythromycin, rifampicin)
Medicines used for fungal infections (Ex. ketoconazole)
Other medicines used to treat Alzheimer?s disease (Ex. galantamine)
Medicines used for arthritis (Ex. aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, or diclofenac)
Anticholinergics medicines (Ex. tolterodine)
Medicines used to treat seizures (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)
Medicines used to treat heart condition (Ex. quinidine, beta-blockers such as propranolol and atenolol)
Diazepam, succinylcholine (used as muscle relaxants)
General anesthetics (Ex. propofol, ketamine, thiopental)
Medicines obtained without a prescription (Ex. herbal remedies)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of DONEP SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, drooling, sweating, slow heart rate, low blood pressure (light-headedness or dizziness when standing), breathing problems, losing consciousness and seizures (?fits) or convulsions.
