Description

Emmox is a brand of Amoxicillin, a broad spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin with proven bactericidal activity and safety.

Emmox has a similar spectrum to Ampicillin but more readily absorbed. Concomitant administration of Emmox with beta-lactamase inhibitors enhances its activity.

It acts by the inhibition of the biosynthesis of the cell-wall mucopeptide. After the oral administration of amoxicillin, 75-90% is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). It is stable in gastric acid and may be given with or without food.

It has a half-life of about 1hour. Protein-binding is about 20%. 20-30% is metabolized by hydrolysis and is excreted in the urine, while 60% is excreted unchanged.
