An epidiascope, also known as a episcope or epidioscope, is an optical device that projects an enlarged image of a two-dimensional object onto a screen or wall. It is similar to a slide projector, but instead of projecting light through a transparent slide, it projects light onto the object itself. The epidiascope consists of a light source, a lens system, and a mirror or prism. The object to be projected is placed on a platform below the lens system, and the mirror or prism reflects the image onto a screen or wall. The lens system allows the user to adjust the size and focus of the projected image.Epidiascopes were commonly used in classrooms, lecture halls, and other educational settings before the widespread adoption of digital projectors and other modern display technologies. They were particularly useful for projecting large images of maps, diagrams, and other visual aids for teaching and presentations.
