Garmin 010-00924-01 Overview
Get WAAS-enabled GPS mapping on your next hunt, hike, or outdoor adventure with the black Montana 650 from Garmin. This touchscreen device features a 4″ color TFT LCD display that is both bright and sunlight readable. You can choose between landscape and portrait modes for the best possible view of the map or data you are trying to interpret. It comes equipped with a 3-axis compass that will always show your heading, no matter if you’re standing still or not holding it level. The Montana comes preloaded with a basemap and supports other separately available mapping options, such as Garmin’s BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, BlueChart g2, and City Navigator.
The Montana utilizes GPS satellites for quick signal acquisition and position fix. It can interpret Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) signals so you can receive information from terrestrial antennas even when your view of the sky is obstructed. The WAAS system also provides greater position accuracy overall. The Montana also features HotFix satellite prediction which uses an algorithm to mimic the movement of the Earth. This technology allows the receiver to quickly regain satellite connection after a couple days of non-use eliminating long initialization times.
You can capture locations and scenery with Montana’s built-in 5MP digital camera. Each photo is automatically geotagged with the location of where it was taken, allowing you to navigate back to that exact spot in the future. You can track and revisit all your pictures on BaseCamp, Garmin’s free trip-planning and reviewing software.
Designed to be versatile, the Montana can be carried as a handheld device or mounted to an array of different vehicles using any of the separately available compatible mounts. When used with an auto mount and Garmin’s City Navigator, the Montana can provide spoken, turn-by-turn driving directions. Additionally, the Montana can be mounted to an ATV, bike, boat, and more.
Because it’s an outdoor device, the Montana is designed to be rugged and durable. It’s water resistant and can withstand incidental exposure to up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. Additionally, it works in almost any temperature climate, from -4 to 158°F. The Montana’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery can last up to 16 hours on a full charge or up to 22 hours with 2 AA batteries.
WAAS-Enabled GPS and HotFix
With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix satellite prediction, the Montana locates and maintains your GPS position quickly and precisely, no matter if you’re in heavy cover or deep canyons.
Electronic Compass and Barometric Altimeter
The Montana has a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass that shows your heading regardless if you’re standing still or holding it level. Its barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your precise altitude, and you can also use it to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.
Advanced Shortcuts
Whether it’s loading an application, navigating to a waypoint, switching your profile, or customizing specific settings to your needs, the Montana’s advanced shortcuts feature lets you combine these functions to create a custom streamlined experience. Each Montana comes preloaded with shortcuts: Go Home, Track Log On/Off, and Stop Navigation.
Fully Customizable Home Screen
Montana’s fully customizable home screen allows you to bring up to 16 items from “Where To?,” “Setup,” and “Shortcuts” to your home screen so you can access them without having to click between screens.
Dashboard Customization
With 1 touch of the power button, you can pull up a multi-orientation dashboard from your map, home screen, compass, trip computer, status page, and more, so you can create more dashboards in more places.
Versatile Mounting
With an array of separately available compatible mounts, the Montana is designed for use on ATVs, motorcycles, in boats, as a handheld, or in your car.
Geocaching
The Montana supports geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your device. The Montana stores and displays key information, including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions, which means no more manually entering coordinates and paper print outs. Visit Geocaching.com to start your geocaching adventure. From there you can upload the GPX file to your device and start hunting for caches.
Share Wirelessly
With the Montana you can share your waypoints, tracks, routes, and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible Garmin GPS users.
BaseCamp
Take charge of your next adventure with Garmin BaseCamp, software that lets you view and organize maps, waypoints, routes, and tracks. This free trip-planning software also allows you to create Garmin Adventures that you can share with friends, family, or fellow explorers. BaseCamp displays topographic map data in 2D or 3D on your computer screen, including contour lines and elevation profiles. It also can transfer an unlimited amount of satellite images to your device when paired with a BirdsEye Satellite Imagery subscription.
Battery Versatility
The Montana features a dual battery system. You’ll have the option of using the rechargeable lithium-ion pack or traditional AA batteries.
