Smooth hole gauge (plug gauge) is a kind of precise measuring tool used to measure the size of workpiece. Smooth hole gauge (plug gauge) is made into two kinds: large size and small size.

Introduction of Smooth Hole Gauge (Plug Gauge):
1. The standard condition for measuring the smooth hole gauge (plug gauge) is that the temperature is 20 C and the force is zero.
2. General gauge for inspecting large entity size of workpiece (i.e. small hole and large shaft size). The gauge stops for inspecting small solid size of workpiece (i.e. large hole and small shaft size).
3. The measurement rules that conform to the principle of size judgment (i.e. Taylor principle) are as follows:
The general measuring surface should be a complete surface corresponding to the shape of the hole or axis (commonly known as the full gauge), whose size is equal to the size of the large entity of the workpiece, and the length is equal to the length of the fit.
The measuring surface of stop gauge should be point-shaped, and the size between the two measuring surfaces is equal to the size of the small entity of the workpiece.
If it is inconvenient or difficult to apply the gauge according to Taylor’s principle in some cases, the gauge deviating from Taylor’s principle can be used under the condition that the shape error of the inspected workpiece does not affect the matching property.
4. Inspect the workpiece with gauges that meet this standard. If the gauge can pass and the stop gauge can not pass, the workpiece shall be qualified.
5. When the manufacturer inspects the workpiece, the operator should use the new or less worn-out rules; the inspection department should use the same form as the operator and have worn-out rules.
When the user representative accepts the workpiece with the smooth hole gauge (plug gauge), the general rule should be close to the large entity size of the workpiece, and the stop gauge should be close to the small entity size of the workpiece.
6. To inspect the workpiece with gauges that meet this standard, if the judgment is controversial, the gauges of the following dimensions should be used to solve the problem.
The general rule should be equal to or close to the large solid size of the workpiece.
Stop gauge shall be equal to or close to the small entity size of the workpiece.
