INTRODUCTION
RELACX contains lactitol or lactulose is a laxative which is used to treat constipation. Lactulose makes the stool softer and easier to pass, by drawing water into the bowel. It is not absorbed into your body and cannot be digested; hence it is transported to the colon unmodified. There it is degraded to acids by enteric bacteria which helps in retaining water in the colon. This results in an extension of the intestinal volume in the colon and indirectly stimulates bowel movement. It is used at high doses to prevent and treat cerebral dysfunction due to liver diseases.
Always take RELACX exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine, if you suffer from obstruction of the bowels, galactose intolerance, inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases. It should be given to infants and children if needed. Tell your doctor if you are taking, have taken or might take any other medicines. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. The most common side effects include mild abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, raised levels of sodium in blood.
