An in vitro study investigated the effect of an isopropanolic extract of black cohosh on the proliferation of human MCF7 breast cancer cells in the absence of estrogen. The extract in question did not stimulate the growth of MCF7 but rather tended to hinder it, showing a clearly anti-estrogenic effect. In the absence of estrogen, therefore, the isopropanolic extract of Black Cohosh inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells! MCF7 breasts sensitive to estrogen and enhances the inhibiting effect of tamoxifen. In several studies, the use of black cohosh has had a significant protective effect on breast cancer.
