Uses
Meprasil 20mg Omeprazole is used to treat conditions such as non-cancerous stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), active duodenal ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. It may also be given together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcers caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole works by blocking the release of acid, thus decreasing the acidity inside the stomach.?It inhibits the hydrogen ion/potassium ion ATPase pumps found on the parietal cells in the gastric gland.
Dosage
For the treatment of GERD symptoms, the initial adult dose is 20 mg once a day for up to 4 weeks5.
In cases where the patient?s GERD is severe enough to cause erosive esophagitis, the correct dosage is 20mg once a day for four to eight weeks.
Warning
Omeprazole can cause kidney problems.?Tell your doctor if you are urinating less than usual, or if you have blood in your urine.
Diarrhea may be a sign of a new infection.?Call your doctor if you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it.
Omeprazole is not to be used for the immediate relief of heartburn symptoms.
Omeprazole may cause new or worsening symptoms of lupus.?Tell your doctor if you have joint pain and a skin rash on your cheeks or arms that worsens in sunlight.
