12-Year-Old Prodigy Accepted to University of Ghana, Will Graduate at 16.
Viemens Bamfo, 12, is the youngest student ever admitted to the University of Ghana in Accra, where he plans to study public administration aged 16. The youngest of 3,000 2019 University of Ghana students is Bamfo.
His father, Robert Bamfo, told BBC that he had trained his son for three years in several courses, helping him pass the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private pupils and get into university. In order to save money, Bamfo’s father homeschooled him and his elder brother, Edwin Bamfo, an environmental scientist who graduated from KNUST at 20.
Bamfo said they used Cambridge and WASSCE syllabi and emphasized dictionary and pronunciation abilities. He uses phonetics and Latin, avoids scientific note-taking, and adapts classes to his children’s interests via associative teaching.
Bamfo aspires to study public administration at the University of Ghana’s Distance Education School and become president by 40. He loves studying constitutional law, political systems, management, economics, and accounting to make Ghana independent.
Bamfo was proud and unsurprised by his son’s success, emphasizing his time and efforts in giving him the skills to succeed. He stressed that he has always pushed his kid to be an outlier via hard work and commitment.
