The 2023/2024 academic calendar has been formally issued by the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The purpose of this comprehensive schedule is to keep staff and students informed about the upcoming academic year by including significant dates and happenings for both the first and second semesters.
First Semester: Important Occasions and Days
March 2024
- Monday, March 18, 2024: The 2023–2024 academic year officially begins with the opening of registration for new students.
April 2024
- On Sunday, April 28, 2024, all incoming and returning students are anticipated to relocate into the residence halls.
- On Monday, April 29, 2024, classes will start. New students will still need to complete their physical clearance and online enrollment.
May 2024
- On Friday, May 17, 2024, the institution will formally welcome new students with a matriculation ceremony.
- Tuesday, May 21, 2024: To assist incoming students in adjusting to university life, an orientation session is planned.
2024 July and August
- A week of revision from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 2, 2024, will help pupils get ready for impending exams.
- Exams for the faculties of education, engineering, life sciences, pharmacy, physical sciences, and the school of basic medical sciences start on Monday, August 5, 2024.
- Exams for the CED (Center for Entrepreneurship Development) are held on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
- On Monday, August 12, 2024, exams for further faculties, schools, and institutes begin.
- Exams for GST (General Studies) are held on Friday, August 16–Saturday, August 17, 2024, and students start their end-of-semester break.
Second Semester: Crucial Occasions and Dates
September 2024
- On Sunday, September 1, 2024, all students begin their second semester by returning to their halls of residence.
- The second semester of lectures starts on Monday, September 2, 2024.
November and December 2024
- November 25, 2024, Monday through Friday: a revision week to get students ready for the impending tests.
- Exams for the faculties of education, engineering, life sciences, pharmacy, physical sciences, and the school of basic medical sciences begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
- On December 7, 2024, a Saturday, CED exams are planned.
- On Monday, December 9, 2024, exams for the remaining faculties, schools, and institutes start.
- GST exams are held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, and are followed by the students’ end-of-term break.
