A Woman was Killed by stray bullet while Gunmen Abduct Student

In Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, a woman was killed by a stray bullet, and a female student named Doris Jonathan Oke was abducted by gunmen.

After the gunmen failed to capture a male companion, it was learnt that Ogwashi-Uku, a Higher National Diploma Mass Communication student at Delta State Polytechnic, had been kidnapped.

The event took place on Wednesday evening, February 5, 2025, along the Polytechnic Road.

After their alleged target escaped, the gunmen intercepted the car and fired randomly before kidnapping the student, a community source who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons informed Punch.

When the five or so men blocked the man’s car and began firing, he was travelling along the Polytechnic Road. After successfully opening the door, the man fled into the bush, according to the informant.

“But as the thugs rained gunshots on the car, the girl at the driver’s side was unable to flee as quickly as the man did, so they dragged her away.

Last night, Ogwashi-Uku felt like a battle zone, and people were fleeing and scurrying to safety. They demanded a ransom of N10 million this afternoon.

A second source, who wished to remain anonymous due to security concerns, revealed that during the shooting, a stray bullet killed a woman and wounded another male.

“A woman who owned a shop beneath the power line was killed by a stray bullet during the shooting, and one man was also shot in the leg before he kidnapped the girl,” the source continued.

According to Mr. Hery Chukwuka, the chairman of the Ogwashi-Uku vigilante group, who verified the kidnapping and murder, the Lexus 330 in question was already parked at the Ogwahi-Uku station.

Bright Edafe, the state police command spokesperson, stated that there was an attempted kidnapping but that he was unable to verify the student’s abduction.

“The man fled and left his automobile behind after an attempted kidnapping. The vehicle has been found at the police station. We have been phoning the man’s number, but it is off. He will be able to explain what transpired if we see him.
