Because of their participation in disorderly festivities on campus, Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has cancelled the final year exams for students in the Faculty of Arts.
Ephraim Ikharehon Isiraojie, the interim registrar of the university, made the announcement in a statement dated January 29, 2025, claiming that the impacted students had disregarded a management guideline prohibiting excessive festivities. Students from the English, History and International Studies, and Mass Communication departments are impacted.
Isiraojie claims that the graduating students were involved in disruptive actions such as loud yelling, hooting, money spraying, siren use, and careless car displays. Access roads within and outside the campus were also blocked as a result of their actions.
According to the statement, “the university administration is troubled that graduating students from the Faculty of Arts disregarded the directive despite prior memos prohibiting excessive celebrations on campus.”
The university agreed to suspend a number of final-year course exams, including but not limited to ELS 411, MAC 414, and HIS 416, after an emergency meeting on January 29, 2025. A decision about the rescheduling of the cancelled tests will be made in due course, the registrar stated. The impacted department heads and the dean of the faculty of arts have been instructed to meet with the acting vice chancellor right away.
The administration of the institution stressed that the goal of this decision is to discourage other graduating students who have not finished their final year exams.
