Governor Gives N2.5 Million to the Best Polytechnic Graduates

Three exceptional graduates of the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu, have received N2.5 million from Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in appreciation of their academic accomplishments.

The governor encouraged graduates to use their skills to enhance the state’s health sector during the institution’s third combined convocation ceremony on Thursday. Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Special Adviser on Secondary Education, spoke on behalf of the governor and reiterated the state’s dedication to encouraging academic excellence.

Among those who received the honour were:

  • Famuyewa Aminat (Dental Technology) – CGPA 3.75 (2021/2022 session)
  • Rasak Temilola (Health Information Management) – CGPA 3.68 (2022/2023 session)
  • Kanyinsola Salami (Environmental Health Technology) – CGPA 3.94 (2023/2024 session, best overall graduate)

Additionally, Salami received recognition as the three academic sessions’ top graduating student overall.

In order to keep Ogun State at the forefront of academic achievement, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a solid educational foundation. He promised to keep funding educational materials, emphasising that education is the foundation of every forward-thinking society.

Dr. Rasaki Akinbo, the institution’s rector, gave a speech during the occasion outlining the advancements since the polytechnic’s 2023 refurbishment. He outlined significant accomplishments, such as:

  • Accreditation of eleven new initiatives
  • Five current courses have been re-accredited.
  • The completion of important infrastructure projects, including the facilities for health information management and medical laboratory technicians
  • Improvements to the ICT centre and hostel renovations

In order to maintain the institution’s expansion, Dr. Akinbo thanked the state government for its ongoing support but demanded more funding and infrastructure improvements, especially tarring internal roads.

In addition, Kunle Kakejaiye, the chairman of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, praised the administration’s dedication to education and urged the government to allocate more funds to improve educational facilities and the general growth of the institution.
