JAMB Minimum Age

JAMB will raise the minimum age for tertiary admission to 18 next year

Starting next year, the Minister of Education has mandated that applicants under the age of 18 will no longer be granted entrance to academic institutions.

The Minister of Education originally said that this new policy would take effect this year. Nevertheless, this elicited a variety of responses. After careful consideration, they decided to implement this new policy next year rather than this year. They made this decision because most JAMB applicants this year are under 18 and were unaware of this new change at the time of registration.

The minister said that the 18-year requirement aligns with the 6-3-3-4 education system.

Professor Mamman said that the Ministry of Education is implementing a program to provide skills training to elementary school students who are unable to secure entrance into postsecondary schools.
