Nigerian Girl Graduates Best in US University with 3.98/4.00 First Class Degree in Engineering and Mathematics.
Grace Paul-Okpara, a bright Nigerian lady, was the top graduating student at San Jose State University, California, with a first-class degree in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics with a 3.98/4.00 GPA.
She became interested in Industrial Engineering in high school because she wanted to pursue a subject that focused on system optimisation with more math and less science.
Grace told Tribune Nigeria that the transition from memorization-based learning in Nigeria to understanding-based testing in the U.S. was difficult, but she established efficient study habits, allocated reading time, and practiced frequently to adjust.
Grace worked as a Peer Educator, which improved her grades but made her schedule stressful, taught her to take pauses. She formed a goal to succeed academically and worked hard, earning just two B grades in the whole course.
She credited her success to her parents, who were intellectuals with doctorates and stressed the significance of education, pushing her and her siblings to succeed academically.
Grace kept focused by seeking support from her mother, friends, and prayer, realising that her trials were part of her route to success.
Grace wants to get a PhD but first wants a master’s in business administration and an MSc in industrial and operations engineering.
She advises kids to find their abilities, work hard until they can work smart, stay focused, and employ tutoring, online videos, and peer assistance.
