No Under-18s Can Write JAMB in 2025

Minister of Education: No Under-18s Can Write JAMB in 2025

According to Nigeria’s education policy, applicants under 18 cannot sit the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) test beginning in 2025, according to Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education.

Mamman told Channels TV that the 18-year age limit for university enrollment is not new. He said young kids may take the test this year, but the age limit would be firmly enforced next year.

He said that this is about age and school years. Before taking NECO, WAEC, and JAMB examinations, a kid must spend 17 and a half years from daycare to primary and secondary school, according to the rules.

Mamman further said that although extraordinarily talented pupils may be considered in the future, the existing strategy is meant to prepare students for higher education. He stated that other nations have comparable age limitations but provide talented pupils opportunity, but Nigeria may exploit such exceptions.

After popular outrage, the federal government temporarily allowed young students to take the JAMB test in 2024 but will completely enforce the age limit in 2025.
