
Oluwasegun Ogundiran, a Nigerian scholar and graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has achieved a perfect 4.0 CGPA in his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a Sustainability concentration, making him the best-graduating student at Nexford University (NXU), an online university with headquarters in Washington, DC.
Mr. Ogundiran was recognised as the valedictorian of the 1,200 students that graduated from NXU in 2024. Oghogho Inneh, Nexford’s Country Director, gave the award, which honours graduates who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to their studies and earn the highest academic excellence.
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, gave the keynote address during the graduation event, which took place at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos. Among the other notable guests were:

Mr. Ogundiran, the former Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, attributed his academic success to his disciplined upbringing and lifetime learning philosophy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from OAU prior to earning his MBA, where he also held leadership positions, such as vice president of his campus fellowship. In addition to his studies, Mr. Ogundiran works as an HR Advisor at Shoreline Natural Resources full-time. In addition, he co-founded the renewable energy firm Gold Weather Ltd. According to Mr. Ogundiran, online learning has the potential to completely transform education in Nigeria. He asked the authorities to:
- Invest in the infrastructure of digital education.
- Encourage collaborations with international organisations
- Increase the availability of high-quality online education Peter Obi underlined at the gathering how crucial online learning is to solving Nigeria’s educational problems. He referenced excellent methods from Turkey, India, and Pakistan that have successfully educated sizable populations through digital media.
Additionally, Oby Ezekwesili urged graduates to concentrate on learning pertinent skills and to sign their names to creative ideas that tackle societal issues. Fadl Al-Tarzi, CEO of Nexford University, commended Nigerian students for their drive and tenacity. He pointed out that 75% of NXU graduates had found success in fulfilling jobs and starting their own businesses.
Additionally, Mr. Al-Tarzi reiterated the university’s dedication to utilising technology, pointing out that NXU has integrated AI into all of its courses and has been offering AI specialisations for almost five years. Thousands of Nigerian students are enrolled in a variety of programs at NXU, an American online university founded in 2019 and with its headquarters located in Washington, DC. These programs include:
