The Senior personnel Association of Nigeria Polytechnic (SSANIP) has declared a statewide three-day warning strike from midnight on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, to Friday, January 24, 2025, citing concerns over career advancement and the marginalisation of non-teaching personnel.
Nura Gaya, SSANIP’s National Secretary, stated that the strike is intended to oppose continued efforts to deny non-teaching staff their due advancement to the pinnacle of their professions on CONTEDISS 15, as defined in the redrafted Polytechnic Schemes of Service.
The union stated that previous meetings with relevant authorities had generated scant results, leading this action to underscore its issues.
SSANIP expressed its frustration in a message to the Ministry of Labour, the National Board for Technical Education, and the Office of the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, calling the situation as a direct affront to their attempts to secure fair treatment.
While the union maintained its willingness to talks with the federal government, it asked authorities to resolve the matter as soon as possible to avoid further disruptions in the polytechnic system.
This follows a similar move by lecturers at the Federal Polytechnic in Ekowe, Bayelsa State, who recently went on indefinite strike demanding unpaid promotion arrears and academic allowances.
