After soldiers allegedly attacked a secondary school head girl for taking earrings from a student, other students retaliated by attacking an army checkpoint, which resulted in soldiers firing and wounding some of them. This led to a violent altercation in Abako town, Katsina-Ala, Benue State.
The issue started when a soldier who was dating the girl purchased her earrings, which were later confiscated in class because of school regulations, according to a teacher. The head girl and a teacher who stepped in were allegedly humiliated and abused by the soldier when he met them at a market checkpoint.

Students, incensed over the raid, organised and charged the military, but were routed when the soldiers opened fire and erected barriers. The police verified that the situation has been kept under control, however the students have already called for the soldiers to leave the area.
Due to the soldiers’ actions, the school administration has vowed to sue the military.
