On Monday, a trailer carrying wood and palm oil lost its brakes and collided with a shuttle bus carrying six students from Federal University in Lokoja, along with the driver of the vehicle. The incident happened close to the university’s permanent location in Felele, Lokoja.
The fully loaded university shuttle was crushed in the collision, which happened at 2:30 p.m., according to witnesses. Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers rushed on the spot to rescue people who were stranded.

The rescue team’s leader, FRSC State Sector Commander Samuel Oyedeji, said that although the precise number of fatalities was not yet known, the deceased were taken to the mortuary for identification, while the injured were transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital and Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment.
