Former student loan recipient repays NELFUND ₦2 million after 49 years.
Over the course of time, Awomolo failed to repay the loan till today. Awomolo wrote to NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, thanking the Nigerian government for the student loan opportunity and praising NELFUND’s transparency and responsibility.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) reported that former student loan recipient Adegboyega Awomolo repaid ₦2 million by bank draft nearly 49 years after obtaining the loan.
Monalisa Dike of NELFUND’s Corporate Communications Department announced the news on Friday in Abuja. Dike claims that Awomolo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), obtained the loan between 1975 and 1977 while studying law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). The loan of ₦1,000 for two academic sessions was vital in completing his legal degree.
