The Danjuma family donates another hostel to UNIBEN.
Former Minister of Defence Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma’s family donated another ultramodern ladies’ dormitory to the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The second gift in 15 months.
The family’s matriarch, Daisy Danjuma, expressed appreciation to the institution during the Wednesday opening event in Benin. Andy Ehanire, Managing Director of Ogba Zoological Garden and Nature Park, represented Mrs. Danjuma, who complimented the institution for granting the former minister and his wife honorary doctorates.
In addition to the new ladies’ hostel, the Danjuma family created a university boys’ dormitory. After the initial hostel contribution, Mrs. Danjuma remembered the UNIBEN Students’ Union President’s sincere appeal that the family not ignore male students. The family supported the development of a boys’ hostel in hopes that both projects might go concurrently.
UNIBEN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lilian Salami lauded the Danjuma family’s dedication to girl development, as seen in the new Senator Daisy Danjuma building. Salami applauded Mrs. Danjuma’s kindness and tireless attempts to improve mankind.
Since the first gift was finished in 14 months, Salami said the institution was originally suspicious about the project’s schedule. On April 29, 2023, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki inaugurated the first hostel, and Mrs. Danjuma promised to provide the second hostel quickly.
To celebrate Mrs. Danjuma’s 72nd birthday, the university will get a third hostel. Salami said that UNIBEN may have dorms named after Mrs. Danjuma by her 90th birthday.
If she were still a UNIBEN student, the Vice-Chancellor would enjoy living in one of these dormitories, which had 24-hour solar power and borehole water. Salami said the institution is proud of the Danjuma family’s campus landmarks.
