After the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) restored electricity on Thursday evening, a devastating fire destroyed student residential complexes in Angwan Lambu in Keffi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
According to witnesses, the fire began when students detected smoke rising from the roof, but it spread swiftly because no help was available right away. Significant damage had already been done when the Nasarawa State University fire department finally arrived.

The university’s fire chief, Mr. Abashi Duniya Peter, said the incident was caused by an electrical problem and advised students to turn off equipment when not in use and to be awake while cooking.
According to him, firefighters were able to save the remaining 55% of the structure, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes, while 45% of the building was destroyed. Faith Akawu, one of the victims, described how the fire was started by an electrical spark from an extension line, leaving them with only their phones and the clothes they were wearing. Students who were impacted by the fire had to start over because they lost all they owned, including books and necessities.
