A former advisor to Governor Francis Nwifuru has been suspended by the Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, on suspicion of participating in cult activities.
Felix Okemini was fired on Tuesday after previously working for Ebonyi North as the Senior Special Assistant on Security. Okemini, who was just accepted to study political science, was seen wearing a symbol thought to be connected to a covert cult in a photo taken during the university’s matriculation ceremony.

His removal from the university and government service was demanded after the image went public and caused a lot of social media reaction.
The expulsion of Okemini was formally confirmed by Governor Nwifuru earlier this week in a statement issued by Grace Umezuruike, the Secretary to the State Government.
The institution announced Okemini’s indefinite suspension due to a breach of the matriculation oath in a letter signed by Registrar Dr. Ifeanyi Igwe in response to the scandal.
Following your exhibition of cultism during the matriculation ceremony on March 14, 2025, the Vice-Chancellor has examined the accusations of cult-related behaviour against you, according to the letter.
We would like to remind you of your matriculation pledge and warn you that cultism and associated activities are totally forbidden and go against the rules governing student conduct, endangering the safety and morale of our university community.
As a result, the Vice-Chancellor, speaking on behalf of the Senate, has ordered your indefinite suspension while the Students’ Disciplinary Committee completes its inquiry into this issue.
“This letter confirms that you have been suspended from the university.”
