University of Ghana Students Protest

University of Ghana students are concerned about the high Pent hostel rates, which range from GH¢5,000 to GH¢35,000 per room.

Students at the University of Ghana face high Pent hostel fees, ranging from GH¢5,000 to GH¢35,000 per room.

Many students find these rates outrageous and question their capacity to pay. Students are alarmed by the revelation of dormitory cost lists, especially private dormitories.

Students booking a 4-in-a-room flat at Pent hostel would spend between GH¢5,955 and GH¢6,663. For a 2-in-one room without air conditioning, rates range from GH¢10,257 to GH¢12,701. Stays with air conditioning cost GH¢16,389 for a 2-in-one room.

For a private and comfortable living arrangement, students must spend between GH¢18,000 and GH¢27,000 for a 1-in-a-room arrangement.

International students incur higher fees, starting at GH¢8,576 for a 4-in-a-room option and GH¢35,320 for a 1-in-a-room setting.

A video showing these costs angered netizens, who urged the University of Ghana administration to intervene. Many social media users are dissatisfied with dormitory expenses exceeding tuition.

The protest highlights student concerns about cost and fairness in University of Ghana housing rules.
