With a 4.70 CGPA Nigerian receives the Best Student Award.

Folarin Oluwaseun Rose, a great Nigerian student, graduated as the second-best graduating student in her field with a degree in physiotherapy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with an excellent 4.70/5.00 CGPA. Oluwaseun’s academic career was characterised by tenacity and fortitude.

She wanted to attend the University of Ibadan (UI) after graduating high school in 2013, but she was not allowed to because of their 18-year-old minimum age limit. Rather, she attended Ogun State College of Health Technology to earn a National Diploma (ND) in Environmental Health Technology, where she graduated as the best student in her class in 2015.

She had obstacles in spite of these early achievements. She persevered and raised her UTME score to 262, but her original score of 213 was insufficient for admission to UI. She was given the opportunity to pursue veterinary medicine, but she turned it down because she didn’t want to. She then spent two difficult years at home before shifting her attention to physiotherapy at UNILAG.

Oluwaseun had a difficult time at UNILAG. She questioned if she could compete, starting as number nine on her class list. Her determination was put to the test by her first-year difficulties in mathematics and a severe illness during her second-year exams. She made the reading room her second home and frequently studied on buses, but she used her setbacks as inspiration thanks to her parents’ steadfast support.

Her studies were further disrupted by outside factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, but she stayed focused and overcame each obstacle with perseverance and hard effort.

Oluwaseun, a recently graduated physiotherapist, is eager for the next phase of her life and will meet the chances and difficulties head-on with the same tenacity that characterised her academic career. Many aspiring students find inspiration in her narrative, which is a testament to the strength of tenacity.
