Three secondary school girls from Ekiti, Katsina, and Adamawa states won the 2024 Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Energy Essay Competition, beating over 500 other Nigerians.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC)-marked competition asked: “How does the New Customer Protection Regulation (CPR 2023). Protect the Rights & Obligations of Electricity Customers?” NERC posted the results on its website and social media.
Ekiti State University International College has awarded Faith Ayomide Ogundola ₦500,000, a diploma, and a plaque for winning first place.
Second place winner, Sumayya Ismail Abubakar from NAK Academy, Funtua, Katsina State, received ₦300,000, a certificate, and plaque.
Vanju Joyful John from Government Day Senior Secondary School in Bekaji, Adamawa State, won ₦200,000 and ₦100,000 from NERC Vice Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni for her remarkable presenting abilities, placing third.
The winners’ parents and guardians got plaques and checks from their schools and English instructors to acknowledge their academic assistance.
Social media postings by NERC highlighted the awardees’ outstanding efforts and prizes. In Nigeria, the energy Act 2023 created the NERC to ensure a fair market, safeguard consumer rights, and encourage investment in the energy sector.
