FG Budgets N47.5 Billion for 50 Senior Secondary School Upgrades

For the first phase of revamping 50 senior secondary schools, the Federal Government has budgeted N47.5 billion.

Dr. Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), said this during the groundbreaking ceremony of Government Science Secondary School (GSSC) in Koton Karfe, Kogi State.

Dr. Ajayi said GSSC, Koton Karfe, is Kogi State’s lone school in this first phase, consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s reinvigorated commitment to education.

He reassured them that other colleges will be evaluated later, urging patience.

“This is the start. When finished, we’ll report to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education to go on,” Ajayi said. The first intervention costs N47.5 billion for 50 schools.

He asked the school principal to help the contractor, especially in safeguarding existing facilities, and to hasten the project to finish within six months while maintaining quality to avoid building collapses.

The commission’s Physical Planning Unit Director Maimuna Umar said the project would feature four new buildings: six classroom blocks, an administrative block, a laboratory, and an ICT and e-library to improve learning.

Although studying had proceeded, school head Yunusa Dauda applauded the government’s action, saying pupils required sufficient facilities to learn comfortably.

“We are grateful that this project is happening now, and we will fully support the contractor to ensure timely completion,” Dauda added.

The contractor, Managing Director of First Man Industries Link Limited, promised to complete the job.
