Soldiers Allegedly Torture Polytechnic Student to Death Due to Cultism Accusations
Terhile Timothy Achinya, a mechanical engineering student at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic in Lafia, was reportedly killed by unidentified military forces after allegations of cult involvement.
The act has incited indignation among the polytechnic community; nevertheless, Acting Rector Dr. Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata has urged for tranquility.
The President of the Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Jacob John Mutuwa, said that the situation intensified when a student, Samuel Ejembi, alerted military officers about purported cultists at an entertainment venue next to the school.
Troops apprehended both the informant and the accused students. Achinya died during questioning and torture. They then transferred his body to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital.
Mutuwa condemned the institution’s inadequacy in providing student accommodation, which he thinks may have averted similar occurrences. He praised the kids for their composure and assured them that authorities had taken legal action against the perpetrators.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) denounced the assassination, demanding prompt justice and requesting military authorities to investigate and hold accountable the troops purportedly from the 123 Special Force Battalion.
