Nigerian Engineer Gets PhD at US University Without Master’s, Celebrates Success.

David Okenwa, a top graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, for the 2018/2019 academic year, announced his acceptance into a PhD program at Oregon State University on LinkedIn. Remarkably, he achieved this without first obtaining a master’s degree.

David will focus his PhD studies on Mechanical and Industrial Engineering while conducting research at the Industrial Sustainability Lab. Additionally, he will serve as the Operations Manager at Oregon State University’s Energy Efficiency Center (EEC), a project supported by the US Department of Energy and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

He expressed enthusiasm about this opportunity, highlighting how it aligns with his goals to promote sustainable industrial practices, influence policy, and support the global energy transition while enhancing his leadership skills.

David expressed gratitude to various supporters, including advisors from EducationUSA Lagos, mentors, family, and friends, whose assistance helped him reach this significant milestone. Despite facing challenges like rejections and admissions without funding, David remained resolute and encouraged others to pursue opportunities abroad, regardless of their qualifications.

He looks forward to the growth and new experiences that await him on this academic journey.
