JAMB lowers 2024/2025 entry age limit.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a significant change to the age requirement for the 2024/2025 admissions cycle, easing the age limit to provide younger candidates with greater access to tertiary education.

As per the announcement made on Thursday, 17th October 2024, candidates who will turn 16 by August 31, 2025, are now eligible for admission, provided they meet the respective institution’s academic and admission criteria.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin explained that this move ensures fairness for all applicants, preventing an advantage for those who may be admitted later in the cycle.

He further emphasized that the adjustment would not lower institutional standards or compromise the quality of admissions.

This decision aims to broaden access to higher education, allowing younger candidates to pursue their academic ambitions sooner.

Institutions must submit the names of eligible candidates turning 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, within one week of the announcement.
