Final year UNIPORT student gets 14 years for Internet fraud

Henry Nathaniel Ekanem, a final-year student at the University of Port Harcourt, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after admitting to charges of internet fraud.

The sentencing, presided over by Judge A. T. Mohammed at a federal high court in Rivers State, followed an indictment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that charged Ekanem on seven counts, including impersonation and obtaining money through pretenses.

One specific charge revealed that Ekanem defrauded $22 from a victim named Diana Roskov, posing as Coran Capsha, the manager of musician Chris Stapleton.

For each count, Judge Mohammed imposed a two-year sentence with the option of a fine. Furthermore, the court ordered the forfeiture of Ekanem’s phones and required him to submit an affidavit of good behavior.
