Kwara State University (KWASU) Announces Fee Reduction and Allowances for Persons with Disabilities

The Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has unveiled initiatives aimed at supporting students and staff living with disabilities.

The university’s Acting Director of Relations, Dr. Saidat Aliyu, announced these measures during an event marking the 2024 International Day of Persons With Disabilities.

Key Announcements
  1. Fee Reduction: The university has introduced a ₦100,000 waiver for all students living with disabilities.
  2. Monthly Allowance: Staff living with disabilities will receive a ₦50,000 monthly allowance.
  3. Employment Opportunities: The university has increased job opportunities for sign language interpreters to foster inclusivity.

Themed “Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Creating an Accessible and Equitable World,” the event was organized by KWASU’s Disability Support Office and the Department of Special Education.

The Chairman of People Living With Disabilities in Kwara State, Comrade Bashir Yusuf, confirmed the implementation of the fee reduction. He noted ongoing efforts to compile data on beneficiaries and expressed optimism about engaging further with the university’s management on these developments.

KWASU’s initiatives reflect its commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities, creating a supportive environment for individuals with disabilities.
