Five Teenagers have been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command allegedly for their suspected role in the death of a man following an argument during a wedding ceremony in Jauro Ali community.
Dotti Manu, the victim’s father from Wuro Wandara village, reported the suspects—Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16), Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17)—who were then arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, claims that the episode happened on December 21, 2024, about at 10 p.m.
A dispute between the suspects and the victim got more intense during the wedding ceremony, and the suspects started swinging sticks against the victim.
“The victim’s father reported that altercations between his son and the suspects resulted in the suspects using sticks to beat up the victim, who sustained internal injuries, during a wedding ceremony on December 21, 2024, at about 22:00 hrs,” he said.
He said the victim was treated but subsequently passed dead after being taken to Kowa Clinic Tongo.
The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy to General Hospital Bajoga.
Abdullahi added, “The case is under investigation; the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the inquiry is finished.”
The police also requested anyone with knowledge about the crime to come forward.
“We are dedicated to making sure that justice is done in this case and will do all in our ability to bring the offenders to justice,” Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi further mentioned that the Gombe State Police Command is striving to guarantee that justice is done and that the society is safeguarded against such serious crimes.
