The University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Nigeria has honoured Agomo Blessing, a gifted scholar from Nigeria, as the top female graduating student in the Faculty of Science. She achieved an exceptional cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.92 out of 5.00, earning a first-class degree in Cell Biology and Genetics.
Blessing described her remarkable academic path in a LinkedIn article, detailing how she was accepted to UNILAG in 2018 and put forth endless effort to succeed. She attributed her achievement to her family’s constant support, her late father, Mr. Johnson Agomo, who funded her studies, and divine favour.
Blessing stood out for her active participation in the university community in addition to her academic achievements. She developed her leadership, health, safety, and environmental management abilities while serving as a Millennium Campus Fellow. During her undergraduate years, she also taught secondary school pupils and coordinated tutorials for undergraduates studying biological science.
Blessing developed a wide range of abilities, such as mastery of internet marketing, graphic design, academic writing, Microsoft Office products, and lab procedures. During her Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), she gained valuable experience in molecular biology, haematology, clinical chemistry, serology, and virology at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR).
For their contributions to her accomplishment, Blessing was extremely appreciative of the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, her instructors, supervisors, and family, especially her mother and siblings. She hopes to use her passion and tenacity to create a rewarding profession and contribute significantly to society and science.
