The bodies of one of the two Ekiti State University (EKSU) students, Ado-Ekiti, who reportedly drowned in the Ero Dam in Ikun Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area, on Sunday night have been recovered, according to the Ekiti State Police Command.
After swimming in the dam, the two undergraduates went missing, according to unverified accounts at first. Sadly, it was eventually thought that they had drowned.
Superintendent Sunday Abutu, Police Public Relations Officer, gave an update on the issue, saying, “At approximately 6:00 PM today, the body of one of the allegedly drowned EKSU students was discovered floating on the Ero Dam.
They have found the body and brought it to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido-Ekiti for autopsy. To ascertain the second student’s condition, efforts are still underway.
Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, the victims, were both enrolled in EKSU’s Department of Theatre Arts.
The two students reportedly went to the nearby hamlet of Igogo Ekiti with their coworkers and a supervisor to conduct study and practise. The two allegedly stayed behind to go sightseeing at the dam after the others finished their work and left for university.
Following their later designation as missing, a police rescue squad and local fisherman joined the hunt.
As authorities continue to look for the second student, the event has caused great anxiety among local residents and the university community.
