President calls on FUNAAB graduates to transform agriculture.

The charge was made by the President, who is also the University’s visitor, during the 32nd FUNAAB Convocation Ceremony, which took place at the Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building on January 25, 2025.

The President, accompanied by Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, underlined the vital role that agriculture plays in Nigeria’s growth, stating that it is the foundation of the country’s economy, the source of its people’s subsistence, and the lifeblood of its rural areas.

In addition to being named the Best University of Agriculture in Africa and seventh globally by the Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking, the President praised the university for its accomplishments. He urged the graduates to apply what they had learnt, think creatively, and use technology to revolutionise the agriculture industry.

Remember that the world you are joining is one that is in dire need of answers, my dear graduates. Accept the accountability that accompanies your education. Be the leaders, innovators, and change agents who put knowledge into practice and foster a more promising future for Nigerian agriculture’, he emphasised.

May the lessons learnt within these hallowed halls serve you well as you step out into the world, carrying the torch of knowledge and hope,” the president said in his prayer and advice to the graduates. May you develop your skills, achieve your goals, and help create a more prosperous and food-secure Nigeria for everybody.

President Tinubu declared that his administration would keep providing funding to agricultural universities so they could start mechanised farming. Therefore, the Visitor expressed gratitude to the Senate, staff, students, and the Chancellor, His Royal Eminence Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi, Otu V, the Obong of Calabar, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, Asoludero, as well as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, for their sacrifices that made the day a success. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the University’s graduating students, parents, guardians, well-wishers, and dignitaries who attended the Convocation Ceremony.

Previous to this, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde thanked His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as all associated Ministries, Agencies, and Stakeholders for their support in the development of FUNAAB. Professor Kehinde revealed that in order to promote agricultural development and guarantee food security, the university has been working with a number of partners and collaborations.
