In an important step to improve leadership and administration in Nigeria’s Federal universities, the Federal Government has authorised a substantial reorganisation that includes the appointment, reassignment, and dissolution of important officials in a number of institutions.

The whole Governing Council—internal and external—has been dissolved by the Federal Government. After serving as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been named the next Pro-Chancellor.
Furthermore, Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been named Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term, with the stipulation that she will not be qualified to apply for the substantive Vice-Chancellor job once the Governing Council posts an advertisement for it. Additionally, Prof. Maikudi is no longer the Vice-Chancellor.

The new pro-chancellor of UNN is Akin Ojo, who was previously the pro-chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja. Furthermore, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, who was previously the Pro-Chancellor of UNN, has been transferred to the University of Uyo as the new Pro-Chancellor.
The current Acting Vice-Chancellor’s term, which ends on February 14, 2025, will not be renewed, and Prof. Oguejiofu T. Ujam has been appointed as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term, with the stipulation that he will not be eligible to apply for the substantive Vice-Chancellor position when it is advertised.

The Federal Government has named Senator Sani Stores the new Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education. Likewise, the Federal Government has named Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi as the next Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. In the meanwhile, the Federal Government has named Prof.
With Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi as the next Pro-Chancellor, the university’s governing system enters a new stage. The Federal Government is still dedicated to strengthening the tertiary institutions’ governance frameworks in Nigeria in order to guarantee openness, responsibility, and superior university management.
