A disturbing incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies, has been brought to the attention of the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. Authorities at the university are treating the incident, which has received a lot of attention on social media, very seriously.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has mandated a thorough, open, and objective investigation into the situation in accordance with our core values of discipline, independence, and excellence as well as the concepts of fair hearing, equity, and justice.
We implore the public and all parties involved to maintain composure while we assiduously seek the truth. The university is dedicated to maintaining decorum and discipline, and we will make sure that, depending on the investigation’s findings, the proper measures and penalties are implemented.
High moral and ethical standards are still upheld by Nnamdi Azikiwe University as an educational institution. Misconduct, indiscipline, or any other type of inappropriate behaviour have no place in our community.
